Jackie Everett:

Jackie came to wood street in 1947 and lived at 68 Frog Grove Lane, originally called ‘Bradstowe (old English for Broadstairs). The house was named by the previous Moore family who came from there.  Jackie went to Wood Street school from 1949 to 1953.

Jackie’s recollections of Wood Street:

Mr & Mrs Fisher owned a market garden at 22 Frog Grove Lane.  The coronation party in 1953 was held in one of his greenhouses as the weather was so bad. All the children were given a coronation mug & the very young ones, a plate. Mis Goodchild, who owned the draper’s shop, used to cut all the kid’s hair.  Mrs Walker, the village chimney sweep, gave pony rides at the annual village show. She lived at the Retreat on the Green.   Mr Frost the signal man who lived in the cottage next to Pinks Hill level crossing.
